10 Instant Tips for Writing an Awesome Blog Post

When you start a blog, you obviously need to have great ideas on what to write about. But when it comes to producing awesome content one blog post after another, it gets difficult at times to stay focused. So, if you’re looking for the best tips for writing a great blog post time after time, read on!

The tips I’m sharing in this post are points I wish I had known when I started my very first blog a few years back. Getting into the world of blogging can easily feel a bit overwhelming – after all, you’re starting an actual business with your blog.

What I can tell you right from the start is: it’s not going to be easy, and there are no shortcuts to success.

I made a good bunch of rookie mistakes with my first blog. I often felt confused and sometimes even a bit scared. Everything just seemed like a big mess – after a while I felt like my blog was all over the place – but I started taking each mistake as a lesson to be learned.

So, each mistake I made taught me something. Something valuable, that is. And the first lesson I learned was: whatever mistake you make, take it as a learning experience. So, I started learning a new lesson pretty much on a daily basis, and I was feeling happier and more grateful than ever!

To help you I’m going to share the most valuable lessons I’ve learned so far so that you can focus on starting a successful blog and creating awesome content from the very beginning.

Let’s get started!

First of All: Know What Your Readers Want and Need

This is a point that doesn’t even make it to the list below. It’s just way too important!

Your #1 mission with every post in your blog is to help you readers. I can’t mention this often enough, really.

Even though your blog is your creation and your passion, you need to put your readers first. Every time, always, and forever.

So, find out what your audience needs, and think about how you can:

  • Solve a problem they are having
  • Answer a question your readers are asking themselves
  • Help them with useful information

Seriously, do this right now before you even read on!

All done? Great!

Now, let’s get to that list, shall we? Have fun!

10 Tips For Writing A Great Blog Post

Tip #1: Stay Focused

This is the very first step you need to take when you start a blog. What are you writing about? Who is your target audience?

It’s perfectly OK to have a bunch of hobbies and interest in life, that’s what makes life so great in the first place. But when it comes to blogging, make sure you figure out the answers to these three questions first:

  • How is your blog going to look like?
  • Who is going to read your blog?
  • What are you going to write about?

Finding the perfect niche for your blog like this is very important for creating a successful blog.

But nevertheless, don’t get caught up in “analysis paralysis”! I have been in your shoes more than once and I know exactly how confusing and overwhelming it may feel to start a blog. That’s why I’m here to help you start yours by sharing everything I’ve learned with you!

So, if you have some idea about your topic but you’re not quite sure where it’s headed, just start writing. (Especially if your head is bursting with ideas for potential blog posts for the future!)

Once you get your ideas out of your head, it’s so much easier to get a better overview of what your blog is going to be all about.

Tip #2: Make a Plan and Stick to It

Whatever it is you’re writing about in your blog, stick to that particular topic – always.

When you start a blog, you’ve done a good amount of thinking and research to find a niche you wish to conquer, right?

Once your blog is up and running, your readers slowly become loyal visitors, finding their way to your blog time after time. They have certain expectations on what they’ll find on your blog. I mean, that’s what turned them into returning readers in the first place, right?

So whatever your niche is, remember to stick to it in the future, too.

In case your mind is wondering elsewhere and you keep getting ideas for new topics, just start another blog on that topic! Nothing is keeping you from exploring new areas of interest and writing great blog posts on a second topic you are passionate about!

But: only start one blog first! Focus all your energy on it and give it your all. That’s the best way to learn everything there is to making a blog successful.

Once you’ve achieved your goals with one blog, it’s so much easier to make it happen with a second one – and much quicker, too!

Tip #3: Stay True to Who You Are, Be Yourself

For most bloggers out there, the #1 factor for success is their personal touch and perspective on the topic they blog about. You are probably no exception!

Your style of writing is what catches the attention of your readers with each blog post you publish. Writing a great blog post means that you are your awesome self in every post you write. Stay true to who you are, to your opinions, and – most of all – to your readers.

Let your readers get to know who you are! You have a one-of-a-kind personality – now is the time to use it for your advantage!

Tip #4: Respond to Blog Comments

Blogging is a great way to start discussions on the topic you write posts about. Your readers can share their thoughts and ideas about each post in the comments section at the end of your posts.

If you haven’t already, make sure you activate the commenting function on your blog!

Reading comments and responding to them is a great way to connect directly with your readers. They’re the people who are taking their time to read your posts and engage in an online conversation with everyone else who is reading them, including you, the author.

Surely, not every comment needs a response, but make sure you reply to the ones that do. It’s the best way to keep your readers coming back and making them feel like their feedback and comments are appreciated.

Tip #5: Use Social Media to Boost Your Traffic

So you’ve just hit the publish button and you can’t wait for your post to go viral, right?

You’ve poured your heart and soul into the post and you’re hoping it will be the next big hit on your blog.

I know exactly how exciting it is, time after time, to publish a new post on your own blog. It’s like you’re sharing a piece of yourself with the world and with your readers.

But what if your post bombs and doesn’t get any readers?

To avoid that, make sure you harness the power of social media to attract more traffic to each new post you publish.

Make your blog posts more shareable for your readers, too.

Add social sharing buttons to your articles using a plugin like Social Warfare. That’s what I’m using and I just love how easy it is to install and setup. The free version is perfect for beginners, so you don’t have to spend a dime on it!

Tip #6: Use Links in Your Blog Posts

Linking between your own blog posts and also to other websites altogether is a great way to:

  1. Increase reader engagement: Pointing out related, helpful posts to readers helps them find your past posts more easily. This will encourage them to spend more time on your blog and help them find the information they’re looking for better.
  2. Boost your search engine rankings: Linking to your past posts and pages makes them look more important and valuable in the eyes of search engines. If you have a few key blog posts that you wish to establish as cornerstone content, make sure to create links to them from other posts and pages whenever you can.

Hence, using links is an immensely powerful way for building a successful blog for yourself.

But don’t overdo it, either. Simply try to use links to help your readers, and the rest of the benefits will follow suit automatically, I promise.

Tip #7: Use Images in Your Blog Posts

Even though blogging is all about writing great content, i.e. text for your readers, make sure you spice it up with some beautiful images.

Choosing great images for your blog posts can help you create a more pleasant atmosphere for your blog, too:

  • Using light-colored, low-contrast images is a great way to make your blog look and appear airy and easy for the eye. That’s why most lifestyle bloggers go for this look. It just fits together nicely with topics like fashion, makeup, or interior design, for example.
  • Choosing darker, more high-contrast images makes your posts look more dynamic and intense. This sort of look could be used for blogs about music, sports, or technology, for instance.

All in all, use images as a tool to emphasize the general topic and niche of your blog. Giving your readers something beautiful to look at is a great way to add more personality to your blog, too!

Tip #8: Stay Positive

In every blog post you publish, aim at keeping a positive tone to whatever it is you write about. (Unless, of course, your blog is specifically focused on expressing negative thoughts and feelings.)

Why?

Simply because reading positive posts is so much easier and interesting for your visitors.

I mean, we all have to deal with a bunch of negative stuff every day in our lives. If we have a moment of time to spare to read a blog online, why not make that moment a positive one, right?

Now don’t get me wrong here. I don’t mean that every blog should be all about rainbows, unicorns, and cotton candy.

My point here is that giving your readers a positive feeling while they are visiting your blog is simply the best way to make them come back to you. And that is what a successful blog is all about!

Tip #9: Set Yourself Realistic Goals

Starting a blog can be somewhat intimidating (yes, I’m speaking from my own experience!).

But at the same time, you’re probably coming up with new ideas for blog posts all the time and you’d just like to share them with your readers as quickly as possible. And that’s a good thing! It means you’re definitely on the right track with your blog and you’re passionate about your topic. Congratulations!

However, don’t underestimate the time and effort that goes into blogging in the long run.

It’s perfectly OK to have big goals (and I encourage you to have them, too!), but be aware of your schedule and how much time you’re able to invest into blogging on a regular basis.

You don’t have to publish a blog post every day if you don’t have the time. And that’s perfectly fine!

What matters most is that you have plenty of good ideas for posts and you can publish in a consistent pace.

When I started my first blog, my head was just bursting with ideas. I was writing every day (and almost every night, too). The more I wrote, the more ideas I got for new posts for the future.

But soon I realised that I had to set myself some realistic goals for the amount of content I was producing.

So, I got myself a notebook for writing down all ideas I had. Whenever I had an extra minute to spare, I would flip it open and pick one idea to write about.

Streamlining my writing process was so helpful! It helped me establish a regular writing habit, and when I had more time, I would also write a bit more and publish the posts later.

Tip #10: Turn Your Passion Into Determination and Success!

Your blog is an incredibly powerful tool! It’s your way of sharing your knowledge, helping people, and connecting with the entire world out there!

You’re definitely on the right track already if you wish to start your own blog. Congrats! Therefore, my last piece of advice is to really focus on what you feel passionate about.

Channel your motivation into determination – set yourself goals, have a plan, and just make it happen!

Having a passion for your blog’s topic is your #1 priority at this point. After all, it’s what turns your blog into a successful business once you get started with it.

When I started my first blog, I was determined to make is a successful one from day one. (And that’s exactly what I did!) I focused on a specific niche and simply allowed for my passion to shine through in every post I wrote.

So, whatever you write about, keep in mind that you are in control of what your blog will turn into! You alone can harness the power of your passion to guide and drive you on your way. It’s what makes blogging effortless and motivating, day after day. If I’d have to give you just one piece of advice, this would be it!
