Whether it’s a freebie, an eBook, or a full digital product, your title needs to do two things fast:

  1. Grab attention
  2. Promise a real, specific benefit

If you’re planning to create an e-book to sell on your website, keep the book title simple.

For example, let’s say you write a book on how to save 30% on grocery bills with 9 quick hacks.

What should your book title be?

This is where a lot of authors get too creative. They feel like their book has to stand out and be unique, so they come up with titles like:

  • ❌ “The Penny-Pincher’s Grocery Transformation”
  • ❌ “The Crave’n’Save”
  • ❌ “Cheap Food Cheats”

Although these can be fun and creative book titles, they say nothing about the outcome your book delivers. Thus, your potential buyers don’t understand what you’re trying to sell! If people can’t understand your product, they won’t buy it.

Don’t overthink it. Name your book based on what it helps your readers achieve.

Your book title should be:

  • “How to Save 30% on Groceries: With 9 Quick Hacks”.

It includes relevant power words and is clear and concise.

Summing it up: A conversion-focussed book title usually follows this formula:

  • “How to [achieve a specific outcome] [by doing something simple or specific]”

This kind of title sets clear expectations, creates trust, and makes the benefit feel achievable. And using power words help your title stand out, communicate emotion, and create desire — without needing extra length or clever tricks.

💡 When I’m naming a book or freebie, I ask two questions:

  1. What outcome does it promise? What methods, hacks, or techniques do I teach the reader for achieving that outcome?
  2. What emotion should the title trigger — trust? excitement? relief? curiosity?
  3. Which 1-2 power words support that emotion and make the benefit clearer?

I try a few options, say them out loud, and go with the one that feels strong but real. You want it to sound like a book people would feel excited about and share with their friends!

15. YouTube Video Titles

YouTube is a crowded space — and the competition for attention is fierce.

To stand out, choosing the right thumbnail photo is important, sure.

But writing the perfect text overlay and video title is what gets the click!

That’s why power words are so effective for your YouTube videos. They inject energy, emotion, or curiosity into your video — and that makes people want to watch.

Let’s look at a few examples of zhuzhing up your YouTube titles with power words:

Here’s a video title for a travel vlogger:

  • ❌ “What to Do in Paris”

Unforgettable adds emotional pull, while “Most tourists miss” adds a curiosity angle and makes it feel exclusive.

Here’s another example for a video about freelancing:

Anyone who’s thinking about freelancing strives for success and regular income, right? That’s the exact message this video title conveys.

Here’s one more example for a video with tips for creating better Instagram Reels:

💡 Here’s how I write YouTube titles for my clients’ videos:

  1. I write a plain version first: What’s the video about?
  2. Then I look at the emotion most relevant to the target audience and their struggles — is it curiosity, excitement, fear of missing out?
  3. I then add 1–2 power words to spark that emotion (without overpromising — the video has to deliver what the title says)

16. Domain Names and Business Names

Your business name is often the first thing people hear, read, or type — so it needs to make a strong impression. And it has to be easy to remember!

Power words help you find the perfect business or domain name in two ways:

  1. Making it memorable:
    Pick a relevant power word to stand out from all the boring, forgettable brands in your niche. Use an SEO power word to give your business name a competitive edge.
  2. Making it unique:
    When registering a domain name (I use Namecheap for this), chances are that your first choice is already taken. Including a power word in your brand might just help you find a domain name that’s still free.

Thus, the right power words can help you:

  • Make your name sound more bold, trusted, or fun
  • Add emotion or authority
  • Hint at your niche, energy, or value — all in just one word
