Why use display ads to monetize your blog?
Ads are probably the most controversial monetization method for bloggers. And fairly so! I mean, who loves to see ads online anyway?
But the truth is: Display ads are one of the most powerful ways to make money blogging these days. They’re by far the fastest method to start earning passive income online. Check out my previous article on how to make money with display ads for more deets.
Of course, you could use affiliate marketing or offer your own products, too. But even if you choose to use other monetization methods, you shouldn’t be putting all your eggs in one basket, right?
That being said, display ads can make a nice addition to your monetization strategy. They’re easy to set up and you can start making money with your blog right away. Although it takes a good amount of traffic to earn a substantial ad income, you’ll get there, don’t worry.

What is Fomo Ads?
Fomo Ads is a display ad network for bloggers and other publishers – big and small. They’ve teamed up with a bunch of advertisers who want to show their best ads to your readers.
Thus, when you sign up with them, you’ll make money every time someone visits your blog and sees an ad or clicks it.
According to Fomo, they focus on highly curated and targeted advertisements.
What this means is that the ads shown on your blog will be related to your content. Also, Fomo uses personal and browsing data to match each ad with its ideal target audience. Thus, your readers will see ads for products they are interested in. This makes the ads less intrusive while also increasing clicks and your earnings.

Who can join Fomo Ads?
If you’ve done your research on ad networks, you’ve bumped into a few that have a minimum traffic requirement to join. For example, AdThrive requires 100,000 monthly pageviews.
And it only makes sense. The more traffic you have, the more revenue the ad network will generate. Thus, they will work closely with bigger blogs. This way, they’ll maximize both their own earnings and those of each blogger.
But when you’re just starting out with blogging, your traffic is low. And depending on how you promote your blog, it could take a while to qualify for a big network.

And here’s the good news: Fomo Ads doesn’t have a minimum traffic requirement. You can join them practically right away when you launch your blog. Just make sure you have a selection of original, interesting blog posts published already.
In short: Anyone can join Fomo, including beginner bloggers.
Should you join Fomo Ads?
I’ve used a few different ad networks in the past years. Honestly, Fomo is the easiest to start earning some money with.
Of course, you have a few options to choose from, even when your blog traffic is low. Let’s take a quick look at some of the advantages Fomo Ads offers when you want to make money with your blog.
Here are a few perks that make Fomo Ads a sound option:
- No minimum traffic requirement: Even if your blog is new and you don’t have massive traffic yet, you can still start displaying ads from Fomo. As your blog grows, you can consider switching to another network if you like.
- Quick signup process: It literally takes 30 seconds to sign up with Fomo. You simply need to enter your name, your email, and choose a password – that’s it.
- Easy implementation: All you need to do to start displaying ads from Fomo on your blog is to embed a small code snippet in WordPress. We’ll look at this in a minute.
- No minimum payout requirement: No matter how big or small your Fomo earnings are, you’ll always get a monthly payout.
- Make money with their referral program: If you like Fomo, check out their referral program and earn a commission by recommending them to other bloggers.
How to sign up with Fomo Ads:
Out of all the big ad networks out there, Fomo probably has the quickest and easiest signup process.
Here’s what you need to do:
First, head over to www.fomo.com/publishers.
Click on the big blue button that says “Get Started”:
On the next page, you just need to enter your name and email address as well as set a password for your Fomo published account:
To finish the signup, read the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use and click “Continue”.
And you’re done! Seriously, you now have a published account with Fomo Ads. I told you this would be quick!
Alright, so how can you start displaying ads on your blog then? Let’s take a look:
How to display Fomo Ads on your blog:
After you apply, Fomo will review your blog. It might take a couple of days until you hear back from them – just be patient here. If everything looks good, you’ll get an email saying that you’ve been approved.
Now it’s time to get started with displaying ads on your blog!
Start by logging into your Fomo publisher dashboard. There you’ll see a quick overview of your performance. The most important KPIs are shown in the top left corner:
- Clicks
- Impressions
- Money earned
Of course, now that you’re just getting started, there’s no data to be shown yet.
From your dashboard, you can change your ad settings, browse through payouts, change the design of your ads, and find your embed code. Let’s started with the code:
Getting the ad code
This is the first thing you should do after creating your account with Fomo. In your dashboard, navigate to Embed to get your ad embed code.
The ad embed code is what you’ll need to copy and paste into your WordPress blog to display ads from Fomo:
Basically, it’s just a JavaScript snippet that will pull the ad script from Fomo and populate your blog with relevant ads.
You might have copied and pasted a similar JavaScript snippet from Google Analytics for your blog, too. But if you’re not familiar with embedding code snippets into WordPress, don’t worry. Fomo has a simple step-by-step tutorial for getting the code added to your blog.
Also, you can use the Insert Headers and Footers plugin to embed your ad code.
Adding your blog to your Fomo sites
After you’ve embedded the code, you must add your blog to your Fomo sites. Head over to Sites in your dashboard menu to add a new site.
Here, give your blog a title and add the URL (including “http” or “https”). Then, go through the targeting settings to give Fomo a better idea about what your readers are interested in. (You can use Google Analytics to check your visitors’ demographics.)
The network needs to check your blog and see that it’s appropriate for displaying their ads. Now, unless your blog is NSFW or a dubious Ponzi scheme, don’t worry about this.
Once their team has reviewed your blog, they’ll link relevant campaigns to it and you’ll start seeing ads there. The team does its best to fit the ads to your readers’ interests.
Basically, everything’s running on autopilot for you from now on. You don’t need to lift a finger while your blog is making money. Neat!
Customizing your Fomo Ads
If you want to, you can adjust the look of the ads displayed on your blog.
With Fomo ads, you have a powerful customization tool to adjust the theme of your ads. It allows you to pick a suitable design that looks great on your blog.
Feel free to play around with the settings a bit and see what works the best for your blog. I didn’t make any adjustments so far – the default settings look pretty good already.
Adding display rules
Page rules are super useful if you want to hide ads on certain pages on your blog.
For example, if you want to have a clean homepage or contact page, you can choose not to display ads on those pages.
Getting familiar with the logic of setting rules takes a few moments. You’re simply adding rules saying “if this, then that”. It’s all about thinking about a logic for what you want or don’t want.
If you feel like you’re getting lost, Fomo has a helpful video tutorial you can watch and follow to get started.
Ad settings
This is by far my favorite part of the Fomo dashboard! When you navigate to Settings in your dashboard, you can fine-tune your ad settings as you like.
For instance, you can determine where you’d like to show ads on your blog. Also, you can choose to disable ads on specific devices:
If you don’t want to show ads to mobile users, just disable them and you’re all set.
Moreover, you can choose how many ads your readers will see. Fomo’s ads are dynamic, meaning that a single ad will only be displayed for a given amount of time before switching to the next one. This will help you make more money with Fomo because advertisers pay you for impressions, too.
Blocking specific advertisers
I’ve never used this tool before, but it’s comforting to know it’s there. In case you see ads on your blog that you’d like to disable, you can block individual advertisers in your Fomo dashboard.
For example, let’s say you’re an affiliate partner for a certain product and Fomo displays ads for its biggest competitor. To be a good sport, you can block that competitor from showing ads on your blog.
When will you get paid?
So you’re probably thinking: when will I get a payout from Fomo, then?
Fomo Ads has a super simple payout schedule. You’ll get paid once a month via Paypal at the beginning of each month.
The best part?
There’s no minimum payout requirement, so you’ll always get a payout.
This is a big advantage over other networks, such as Google AdSense, where you’ll need to accumulate $100 in earnings to get paid. If you’re just starting out, it can take months to make that first hundred bucks. I mean, some bloggers might never see their money if they choose to switch to another ad network. Just something to keep in mind.
How much money can you make with Fomo Ads?
Moreover, Fomo claims to have higher payouts than Google AdSense. In other words, according to them, you can make more money with the same number of visitors by switching from AdSense to Fomo.
Of course, it’s difficult to say if this is true for every blog out there. But since the signup process is easy and quick, it might be worth a try.
From what I’ve seen so far, Fomo is more profitable than Google AdSense, for example. This is because Fomo displays a single ad only for a few seconds, resulting in more impressions. And since advertisers pay you for impressions, this translates into higher income.
The minimum payout with Fomo Ads is $2 per 1,000 impressions. You’ll often see this figure referred to as CPM (cost per mille).
Depending on how long your visitors stay on your blog, a single pageview could mean 2-6 ads, for example. Thus, you could get paid a minimum of $4-12 per 1,000 page views. In reality, your earnings will most likely be higher than this as your blog traffic grows.
At the end of the day, the only way to find out how much you can make with Fomo is to try them out. Even if your blog is brand new, you have nothing to lose, right?
Final thoughts: Fomo Ads review – is it worth it?
Making money blogging and earning enough passive income to live off of takes a lot of work. It’s just a matter of trying out new monetization methods and seeing what works best for your blog.
The bottom line is: it’ll take some time and a lot of work to see substantial blog income, but it’s worth it. I mean, what’s better than making money without having to lift a finger? Why not earn money while you’re on a holiday somewhere under a palm tree?
Monetizing your blog traffic with display ads is the quickest way to earn your first bucks as a blogger. And while you have a few options to choose from, Fomo Ads is a 100% legit ad network for any blogger out there.
Fomo has a quick signup process and their payouts are among the highest for low-traffic blogs. Also, since there’s no minimum payout requirement, you’ll always get paid regardless of how much or little you’ve earned.
I used Google AdSense when I started blogging. However, their payouts and service just aren’t on par with the competition. Whenever I needed help with my ads, I could never reach an actual human being to talk to. That’s where other ad networks do a much better job – including Fomo.
That being said, give them a try and see how their ads perform on your blog. Don’t be surprised if you earn considerably more than with AdSense! Use this link to get started right away. Good luck!
